Appreciate Forgiveness

June 12, 2009 By: The Card Sender Category: Personal Development

peace-be-unto-you I appreciate forgiveness because it allows me to experience emotional relief or better yet emotional release. Forgiveness lightens my mental load and makes space for love and kindness.

It takes a large amount of effort, energy and mental stress to hold onto anger when someone has wronged you. Most of us have very little experience at coping or dealing with forgiveness effectively.

A few months back a friend told me that he didn’t truly learn how to forgive until his mid-forties. It took someone almost dying for him to make this change. He used his personal three step method in forcing himself to forgive. At first it was difficult and he didn’t feel like the steps were working. As time moved on his “Wipe Away” method seemed to be working.

His Wipe Away method has three steps. The first step to forgiveness according to his method is to ask yourself the question – What good has this experience brought into my life? He said that he has found more good than bad in most situations where someone has wronged him.

His next step is to let the person know that they have wronged you. This seems like an easy thing to do. However there are rules to letting them know. You must be calm and level headed. You must plan and think out exactly what you want to say to them. You must be willing to listen to the other person. Most of the time, you will feel better after having had the conversation. should-keep-my-mouth-shut< Step three is the mental part of forgiveness. It is the moment you must deal with self. Find a quiet place that makes you feel strong, confident and positive. Make sure you stay in this place for an uninterrupted 30 minutes. You can sit up straight or lay on your back. Get comfortable. Now repeat out loud to yourself…I am forgiven, I have forgiven and I am at peace. After a few days you will feel better about forgiveness.

I appreciate forgiveness because it opens my heart to the God within me. It allows me to feel forgiven. Embrace the art of forgiveness today. Learn to appreciate the fact that you have been forgiven and then you will forgive others.
